Takamatsu

Takamatsu, the capital of Kagawa Prefecture, is located on Shikoku Island, where its dynamic development and unique attractions attract tourists from all over the world. One of the most important places in Takamatsu is Ritsurin Park, considered one of the most beautiful Japanese gardens, developed over more than 100 years. Ritsurin offers stunning views of meticulously arranged bonsai trees, koi ponds, and distant hills, creating a harmonious space for walks and contemplation. Nearby is Takamatsu Castle, also known as Tamamo Castle, part of which is situated right above the water. Although it has not fully survived, fragments of the walls and moat can still be admired. Another attraction in Takamatsu is the Shikoku Mura shopping district, an open-air museum where visitors can discover the traditional architectural achievements of this region. For art lovers, Takamatsu offers the Setouchi Triennale, a contemporary art festival held every three years, showcasing the works of artists on the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. An important part of the city is also the port, which serves as a gateway to many nearby islands, such as Naoshima, known for modern museums and art installations. Takamatsu is also a place where you can taste local dishes, including the famous udon – thick Japanese noodles served with various toppings.
